Intent Statement

At Christ Church, we believe that a high-quality art and design curriculum should engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, create and review their own and others’ works of art. We believe that every child should be given the time and opportunities to be artistic in their own unique way.

Our curriculum provides children with the opportunities to express their individual interests, thoughts and ideas. At Christ Church, it is important for children to gain the confidence to see themselves as artists. With this growing confidence we want every pupil to discover what they enjoy and which styles of art or media inspires them to be creative. Therefore, our pupils have regular opportunities to engage with different art forms using sketching, painting, sculpting, printing, digital media, along with creating art inspired by famous artists.

By the end of each term our children will have created individual pieces of work which they can both reflect on and be proud of. Additionally, as they learn about the history, roles and functions of art, they can explore the impact that it has on contemporary life and that of different times and cultures.
