Computing

Intent Statement

At Christ Church, we recognize the important role that technology has on our community’s everyday lives. The way we learn, communicate and think is greatly impacted by the ever changing digital world and we are fortunate that our school is located in East London, a buzzing technological hub of start-up companies, leading business firms and tech giants.

We endeavour to give our pupils the foundational knowledge and transferable skills to move through their education, and beyond, as global citizens. We believe it is our responsibility to turn our pupils’ “Forever Knowledge” into cultural capital that will enable them to not only start their ‘journey well’ but also to succeed in further education and careers later on in life. We ensure that computing supports learning across the curriculum and that it is accessible to every child.  As a school that prides itself on its tight-knit community, we want our children to utilise technology in a socially responsible and safe way in order to flourish, looking after both themselves and each other online.

Implementation

At Christ Church, we work closely with IT company turn IT on and have developed our curriculum into three core strands; computer science, information technology and digital literacy. We have implemented a topic based approach towards computing, supplemented by our own creative curriculum. These lessons aim to not only engage our students, but grow in them a sense of ownership and awareness of the technical world around them. We also value the importance of teaching our children about online safety, ensuring that they are able to develop a critical eye when accessing the Internet and that they are equipped with the knowledge of what to do if they come across something either inappropriate or uncomfortable.
