Key Information

We have a number of regular activities which happen on the same day every week. On a Monday, Mr Black will be teaching computer skills to the class. Also on a Monday Mrs Sarmiento will be teaching the children Spanish. Violin lessons with Faraz and Sandy take place on Thursdays. Please make sure your child comes to school in their PE kit every Wednesday and Friday.

Maintaining excellent attendance and punctuality is so important. Please ensure your child is present and punctual at the beginning of the day. Gates open at 8.45 and the first lesson starts at 9am. The children are collected from their classroom door at 3:30pm.

How you can help

Children are expected to be reading aloud for at least 10 minutes, once a day to an adult if possible. As home life can be so busy, we suggest the children read to parents or older siblings whilst they are cooking dinner or doing other housekeeping tasks so that it can be done simultaneously. The reading skills that we focus on are volume, expression, pace (not too fast or not too slow) and reading with a clear voice. Reading records are checked once a week on Fridays.

The students will be bringing home a book to read for pleasure as well as a decodable book that is used to practise the sound they are learning in phonics that week. It is extremely important that the children read this book and return it the following week. Thank you for your assistance with this.

Homework will differ each week – some weeks there will be more than others. A homework register will be kept to ensure children are doing their work. Homework will include spelling and be due on Friday, when our spelling test is conducted. Our spelling test results are recorded each week as well to be able to see progress and any areas that require additional practise.
