Welcome!

At Christ Church, we believe that “Starting the Journey Well” begins in Foundation stage. We recognise the value of learning in our classrooms and in our own dedicated outdoor learning space.

Our Curriculum

There are seven areas of learning and development, which shape education in early years settings. All areas of learning and development are important and inter-connected. At Christ Church Primary School, we believe in a holistic approach to teaching and learning. Our play-based curriculum follows the natural year, to help develop our children’s cultural capital and to meet the needs of our learners.

Early Learning Goals

The Early Years curriculum comprises seven areas of learning covering each Early Learning Goal (ELG). To reach a Good Level of Development (GLD), pupils must achieve at least expected levels in literacy, mathematics and all prime areas of learning. By the end of Reception the children are assessed against the Early Learning Goals in the seven different areas of learning.

If you would like more information about the ELG then you can find it here:

How You Can Help

Please read with your child every day and record this in their reading record. They can read their school reading book; story books, comics and magazines or any text they see and want to read. It’s also important to check your child understands what they are reading and what is being read to them, so remember to ask lots of questions!

Help your child practise their High Frequency Words and check their Home Learning letter that goes out every Friday to find out what we will be doing the following week.

Practise counting objects and making up number stories, point out numbers in your environment and discuss their meaning.

Cook with your child! Talk about what ingredients you are using and get them to help you measure out the quantities.  Washing and tidying up are also part of the learning experience!
